- Barcelona has rejected Arsenal's €90 million bid for Brazilian winger Raphinha, valuing him at no less than €100 million
- Raphinha has been in exceptional form this season, contributing 12 goals and 10 assists under manager Hansi Flick
- Arsenal faces a dilemma, as their transfer strategy typically avoids big-money moves for players nearing their peak
Spanish giants Barcelona has reportedly turned down a €90 million bid from Arsenal for Brazilian winger Raphinha. The Catalan club, adamant about their valuation, made it clear that only a nine-figure sum would tempt them into parting ways with the 27-year-old star.
Raphinha, who has been in impressive form this season, has been a regular player under manager Hansi Flick. With 12 goals and 10 assists in just 17 appearances, his impressive form has made him indispensable to Barcelona’s plans. Flick, recognising his importance, handed the Brazilian the captaincy at some point during the season.
This isn’t Arsenal’s first attempt at securing the dynamic winger. The Premier League side previously tried to sign Raphinha in 2022 during his days at Leeds United, but the player opted for a move to Barcelona instead. Now, with much more interest, Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta sees Raphinha as a key piece to bolster the Gunners’ attack.
According to reports, the Brazilian’s dynamism and creativity make him a perfect fit for Arsenal’s style of play. However, Barcelona’s stance on his valuation, no less than €100 million, has put Arsenal in a tricky position.
Adding to the transfer complexity is Arsenal’s transfer strategy. Over the years, the club has been cautious with big-money deals for players over 27, instead opting for younger talents or affordable veterans like Leandro Trossard and Jorginho. At 28 next month, Raphinha’s age and price tag raise questions about whether Arsenal would break their usual mould.
The absence of a sporting director also complicates matters for the London club. PSG’s Luis Campos is reportedly being considered for the role, but until Arsenal fills the position, significant transfer decisions may remain uncertain.
Meanwhile, Barcelona could still entertain offers if they secure a replacement. Reports suggest Nico Williams, a long-term target, could be on their radar if they decide to cash in on Raphinha.
For now, the winger remains an integral part of Barcelona’s squad, and Arsenal faces a challenge if they wish to secure his signature.
Arsenal prepares record-breaking £100M bid for Isak
Previously, TheRadar reported that Arsenal appears ready to stir the waters again in the January transfer market, as they reportedly prepare a substantial £100 million bid for Newcastle United’s prolific Swedish striker, Alexander Isak.
Since joining Newcastle in 2022 for £63 million from Real Sociedad, Isak has scored an impressive 36 goals in 74 appearances, yet his form this season has shown signs of waning, with only one goal so far.
