- Spanish giant Barcelona dominated Ejuke’s Sevilla 5-1, led by Lewandowski and Torre braces
- Barcelona’s midfielder Pablo Torre scored two late goals in the match to complete the rout
- The victory came before Barcelona’s clash with Real Madrid in the upcoming El Clasico
Spanish giant Barcelona delivered a brilliant performance in their 5-1 victory over Sevilla, with Robert Lewandowski and Pablo Torre both scoring twice to seal the win.
The Catalan giants were in control from the beginning, and Lewandowski’s double in the first half certainly had a positive effect on how well they controlled the match. Pedri added a third before halftime, while Torre’s late brace damned any hope of a Sevilla fightback.
The ruthless forward Lewandowski got the party started by converting a penalty early in the match, sending Barcelona on their way to another triumph. Sevilla’s defence was all at sea, and Pedri made them pay by smashing a shot into the bottom corner from the edge of the box minutes after Lewandowski’s penalty.
Lewandowski's second came courtesy of Raphinha’s perfect low cross, the Polish striker evading the offside trap slot home his second goal of the match just before halftime, giving the home side an unassailable 3-0 advantage 15 minutes to the hour mark.
Though Sevilla had a few moments of hope, particularly with Super Eagles star Ejuke causing problems early on, their efforts were however not enough. Goalkeeper Orjan Haskjold Nyland made some crucial saves but was eventually beaten again as Pablo Torre scored twice to seal the win, first turning in a cross from Jules Kounde, then adding another with a neat finish.
Sevilla did find a consolation goal late in the match through Stanis Idumbo Muzambo, but Torre's late strike ensured that Barcelona’s four-goal cushion remained intact.
Unfortunately for Sevilla, Ejuke’s injury in the 45th minute must have further dampened their spirits through the match.
Barcelona’s manager Hansi Flick could not conceal his excitement as he reflected on the match,
“Every game is important, not just the big ones. Today’s was. We are very happy to have come back in this form. We are very happy with the result and with Gavi. He played well. The atmosphere was very good. I had goosebumps. Today was his goal, to be on the bench and play. It was his dream and he was able to fulfil it. Today everyone was happy, you, his teammates, the club, the people. He played with intensity and that’s normal. We already know what he’s like.”
This win pushes Barcelona further ahead on the La Liga table leading Real Madrid with 3 points, as they now turn their attention to this weekend’s showdown with arch-rivals Madrid in the most anticipated game in the Spanish league, the ‘El Classico.’
