To honour exceptional Nigerians and international friends who have made notable contributions to the country’s development, President Bola Tinubu has approved the commencement of the 2024 National Honours Awards.

The announcement was made by Mr. Zaphaniah Jisalo, Minister of Special Duties and Intergovernmental Affairs, during a meeting with ministry management staff on Tuesday,September 10.

Jisalo elaborated that the Federal Government is committed to recognizing both Nigerians and foreign allies who have demonstrated outstanding achievements in their respective fields.

This initiative aligns with the National Honours Award Act of 2004, which retroactively encompasses contributions dating back to 1963.

In a bid to maintain transparency and integrity in the honours process, Jisalo emphasized that the nomination forms and procedures for the awards will be entirely free of charge. He urged the public to remain vigilant and avoid any schemes demanding payment for nominations.

“The public is encouraged to submit nominations for individuals who have made significant contributions towards uplifting our nation and its people,”
“This is an opportunity to celebrate those who have positively impacted Nigeria’s growth and development.” Jisalo said.

The minister's remarks underscore the government’s commitment to a fair and equitable honours system, reinforcing the message that genuine merit and contribution will be the sole criteria for receiving national recognition.

Nominations for the 2024 National Honours Awards are anticipated to open soon, with the public urged to participate actively in identifying deserving candidates.
