The Federal Government has dismissed rumours that the Third Mainland Bridge was shaking, calling them baseless and motivated by ulterior motives.

Olukorede Kesha, the Federal Controller of Works in Lagos State, addressed the false claims during a tour of the bridge with journalists on Thursday, January 16.

“The honourable minister has directed that I come out and tell Lagosians and Nigerians that there is nothing wrong with the bridge,” Kesha stated

She clarified that the circulating messages, which had spread across social media platforms like WhatsApp and Facebook, were entirely false.

These messages had suggested that part of the bridge had opened up and was shaking, prompting widespread concern.

Kesha attributed the rumours to "mischief-makers," describing them as individuals with idle minds or those seeking to stir unrest in a politically calm period. She urged the public to disregard the unfounded claims.

Third Mainland Bridge is safe, Kesha assures

“The rumour is the handiwork of mischief columnists – those who are idle and those who think that the political atmosphere is too quiet for them.”

She further said, “That is why we have come here. I took time with you people (journalists) to go through the entire length of the 11km bridge.

“We drove round this, we came back and we saw that there is nothing amiss,” Kesha said.

“We are using this opportunity to tell the motoring public, Lagosians and all Nigerians that the bridge is safe, the integrity is not in doubt.

“After all, it is the same bridge that we ply, Lagosians ply and the ministry’s officials ply,” Kesha stated.

Nigerian government allocates N18bn compensation for Lagos-Calabar highway

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Federal Government allocated N18 billion for compensation to property owners affected by the Lagos-Calabar coastal highway, with payments expected within ten days.

Minister of Works David Umahi acknowledged challenges in the compensation process but stressed the government’s commitment to transparency and adherence to legal obligations.
