1. Private employers paying below N70,000 risk jail – FG: The Federal Government has called on agencies recruiting in the private sector to adhere to the N70,000 minimum wage, warning that any deviation would not be tolerated.

The Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Labour and Employment, Kachollom Daju, stated this on September 18 while speaking at the 13th Annual General Meeting of the Employers Association for Private Employment Agencies of Nigeria, held in Ikeja, Lagos.

2. Nigerians travelling abroad risk allergic diseases, says dermatologist: A consultant paediatrician and dermatologist, Olatunde Odusote, has disclosed that Nigerians following the trend of relocating abroad are at risk of allergic diseases.

Odusote made this known at a press conference held in the Ikeja area of Lagos State on September 18 to announce a two-day conference to address the issue of allergic diseases.

3. Tremor sends fear, panic to Abuja residents: Despite being assured of their safety by the Federal Government, Federal Capital Territory (FCT) residents have continued to express worry over earth tremors in their neighbourhoods for five days. 

Through the Nigerian Geological Survey Agency (NGSA), the government said the residents should not entertain fear because the tremors were low and posed no threats to them and the environment.

4. NLC blames policy somersault for NNPC, Dangote disagreements: The President of the Nigeria Labour Congress, Joe Ajearo, has attributed the current uproar between the Nigeria National Petroleum Company Limited and the Dangote Petroleum Refinery to alleged government policy somersault and fraudulent moves by some forces.

Ajearo, who said this to journalists at the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal ll in Lagos on September 18, further described what has been going on between the Dangote and the NNPC as uncalled for, stressing that in a deregulated economy, there should be choices and competition.

5. Japa: OAUTHC recovers over N30m from medical personnel: The leadership of Obafemi Awolowo University Teaching Hospital Complex (OAUTHC), Ile-Ife, Osun State, has retrieved over N30 million from workers who relocated abroad and are still receiving salaries.

The Chief Medical Director, Prof. John Okeniyi, said this on September 18 while giving a situational analysis of the hospital to mark his first anniversary.
