1. FG alerts 11 states as Cameroon plans Lagdo dam release: The Federal Government on September 17 alerted Nigerians to the water release from Lagdo Dam in Cameroon.

The FG made this known in a press statement signed by the Director General/Chief Executive Officer of the Nigeria Hydrological Services Agency, Umar Muhammed.

The statement noted that the authorities of the Lagdo Dam in Cameroon will initiate controlled water releases starting from Tuesday, September 17, 2024.

2. Residents seek intervention as flood wrecks havoc in Anambra community: Several families and persons are currently affected and displaced by a flood disaster at Ugwu Mkpume Layout, Achalla Agu community in Nkpor, Idemili North Local Government Area of Anambra State.

Findings showed that the severe impact of flooding has been a persistent issue in Anambra in recent years, especially across communities near the River Niger and other flood-prone areas. With the prediction of NIMET of impending flooding in the months to come, the worst may not have come yet.

3. Enugu community protests police harassment: The Agunese-Mmaku community in Awgu Local Government Area of Enugu State has expressed concern over a looming potential breakdown of law and order as a result of constant police harassment, arrest, and detention of community members on “trumped-up allegations.”

Through the Agunese-Mmaku Development Union, the community appealed to the police high command under the Inspector-General of Police, Kayode Egbetokun, to order the immediate release of those being held at various police detention facilities and correctional facilities on such charges.

4. Instagram introduces teen-friendly safety features: Meta has launched Instagram Teen Accounts, a new feature designed to enhance safety for teenagers under 16.

The feature rolled out on September 17, includes built-in protections to restrict inappropriate content, limit unwanted interactions, and give parents more control over their child’s social media experience.

5. Jesus didn’t sell miracle water, slam-dunk Christians, Victoria Orenze warns: As Prophet Fufeyin faces an investigation by the National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control over allegations of selling miracle products, prominent gospel singer Victoria Orenze has issued a stern warning to Christians, urging them to beware of infiltrators who misuse religious authority.

The ‘Truth in Sounds’ singer’s comment comes against the backdrop of controversies surrounding the sale of the products branded “miracle water” and “River Jordan water," among others, by a faith-based organisation, Christ Mercy Land Delivery Ministries, led by Prophet Fufeyin.
