1. Edo gov poll: Petrol crisis threatens election as APC, PDP set for showdown: The ongoing nationwide fuel crisis has forced the Independent National Electoral Commission to increase its financial commitment to the transport unions that would be involved in Saturday’s Edo State governorship election.

The adjustment was in response to the recent surge in fuel prices, which has impacted the operational costs of transport companies.

2. FG targets $7trn from global halal market: The Federal Government has launched a comprehensive strategy set to start on September 17 to position the country as a leading player in the halal economy to tap into the seven trillion dollars of the burgeoning global Halal market products and services.

Mr Aliyu Sheriff, Special Assistant to the President on Export Expansion (Office of the Vice President), disclosed in a statement issued by the spokesperson of the Vice-President, Mr Stanley Nkwocha, on September 16 in Abuja.

3. Tinubu visits Borno, pledges support for flood victims: President Bola Tinubu has pledged that his administration will help the victims of flooding in Maiduguri, Borno State, to alleviate the damage caused by the recent flood that ravaged the state capital and other parts of the state.

During his visit to the state on Monday, September 16, the President pledged to assess the extent of the damage caused by the flood.

4. Abas emerges Oyo APC acting chair: The All Progressives Congress in Oyo State, on September 16, announced Olayide Abas as its new acting chairman to fill the vacuum created by the death of the late chairman, Isaac Omodewu.

Abas was, until his announcement as the acting chairman, the deputy chairman of the party, as he and the late Omodewu, alongside other members of the state Executive Committee of the APC, got elected in the October 2021 congress of the party held at the Obafemi Awolowo Stadium, Oke-Ado, Ibadan, the state capital.

5. JAMB cuts UTME fees for people living with disabilities: The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has reduced the registration fee for the Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) from N5,000 to N3,500 for visually impaired candidates and others with disabilities to ensure equitable access to tertiary education for persons with disabilities (PWDs).

The JAMB Registrar, Prof. Is-haq Oloyede, announced this at a media briefing on September 16 in Abuja ahead of the board’s Equal Opportunity Group (JEOG) first Africa Regional Conference on Equal Opportunity of Access to Higher Education (ARCEAHED), which will hold today and tomorrow in Abuja.
