1. FRSC warns against night travels amidst deadly crashes: The Corps Marshal of the Federal Road Safety Corps, Shehu Mohammed, on September 12, issued a warning to fleet operators, commercial drivers, and private vehicle owners, urging them to stop making night trips.

Mohammed, in a statement signed by the corps spokesperson, Olusegun Ogungbemide, pointed to the increased dangers of night travel, which include poor visibility, driver fatigue, excessive speed, and the risk of falling asleep at the wheel.

2. Tinubu, King Charles meet in London: King Charles III on September 11 welcomed President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to Buckingham Palace in London. The Royal Family announced the meeting on its verified X handle, @RoyalFamily, sharing the significant encounter between the two leaders.

The meeting marks a significant moment in diplomatic relations between the United Kingdom and Nigeria as the two leaders discuss matters of mutual interest and importance.

3. Governors rally support for Borno State amid devastating floods: Governors from Lagos, Ondo, Adamawa, and Kwara States have pledged their support to Borno State following the disastrous flood in Maiduguri, which has displaced thousands and left communities in dire need of assistance. The governors commended the ongoing rescue efforts and lauded the resilience of the affected communities.

Sanwo-Olu said their visit was to show solidarity with Borno Governor Babagana Zulum and the residents impacted by the disaster.

4. FG signs historic Cape Town Convention Practice Directory: In a landmark move, the Federal Government has signed the Cape Town Convention (CTC) Practice Direction to reduce the cost of airline operations in Nigeria. 

The CTC Practice Direction was signed on September 12 by the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Terhemba Tsoho, during a stakeholders’ meeting of the Presidential Enabling Business Environment Council (PEBEC) chaired by Vice President Kashim Shettima at the Presidential Villa, Abuja.

5. Sweden to offer immigrants $34,000 for voluntary return home: Sweden’s government announced on September 12 that it would significantly increase grants for immigrants who voluntarily return to their home countries, aiming to encourage more migrants.

Starting in 2026, immigrants who choose to return will be eligible for up to 350,000 Swedish kronor ($34,000), according to the right-wing government supported by the anti-immigration Sweden Democrats.
