1. Tinubu sacks NNPCL boss Kyari, appoints Ojulari as successor: President Bola Tinubu has carried out a major overhaul of the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPCL) leadership by removing its Chairman, Pius Akinyelure, and the Group Chief Executive Officer, Mele Kyari.

In their place, Tinubu has appointed Bashir Ojulari as the new Group CEO, with his appointment taking effect from April 2, 2025.

The announcement was made on Wednesday, April 2, through a statement titled “President Tinubu Reconstitutes NNPC Limited Board, Appoints New Chairman, Group CEO,” and signed by Bayo Onanuga, the President’s Special Adviser on Information and Strategy.

2. I would have managed economy better than Tinubu – Peter Obi: The former Anambra State Governor and 2023 Labour Party presidential candidate, Peter Obi, has criticised President Bola Tinubu’s economic policies, claiming he would have handled the nation’s economy more effectively.

Speaking on Arise News Prime Time on Tuesday, April 1, Obi asserted that had he been in power, Nigeria would have experienced significant economic growth in two years through investments in productive sectors that drive sustainable development.

3. Kogi government accuses Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan of inciting violence: The Kogi State Government has strongly refuted claims made by suspended Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan, describing them as “reckless, false, and malicious.”

In a statement released on Tuesday, April 1, the Commissioner for Information and Communication, Kingsley Fanwo, called on security agencies to monitor Akpoti-Uduaghan’s statements, alleging that she is attempting to incite unrest.

4. APC rules out automatic tickets for Cross River NASS members in 2027 elections: The Cross River State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has ruled out automatic tickets for serving National Assembly and state lawmakers ahead of the 2027 elections.

However, the party has granted automatic re-election tickets to Governor Bassey Otu and his deputy, Dr. Peter Odey.

This decision was reached during the party’s State Executive Council (SEC) meeting in Calabar on Tuesday, April 1.

5. Putin orders largest military draft in over decade, adds 160,000 troops: Russian President Vladimir Putin has authorised the conscription of 160,000 new soldiers into the military, marking the country’s largest troop call-up since 2011.

According to Kyiv Independent, the decree was reported by the Interfax news agency and published on Russia’s government legal announcement platform.
