1. Dangote invests $700m in sugar production: The President of Dangote Group, Aliko Dangote, has reaffirmed the conglomerate’s commitment to ending raw sugar importation in Nigeria with an investment exceeding $700m in sugar production.

Dangote, who spoke on Wednesday, February 12, during the ‘Dangote Special Day’ at the ongoing 14th Gateway International Trade Fair in Abeokuta, Ogun State, said the group is accelerating its Sugar Backward Integration Plan to boost local production.

2. MTN backpedals, reverses 200% data tariff hike: MTN Nigeria has announced a reversal of its 200 per cent tariff hike on the 15GB data plan after facing widespread backlash from customers, including an industrial action declared by the Nigeria Labour Congress, NLC, against telecommunications operators.

MTN in a statement posted on its official X account on Thursday, February 13, acknowledged the frustration caused by the sudden price increase and apologised to its subscribers.

3. Lagos raises BRT fares by 18% February 17: The Lagos State Government has announced an 18 percent increase in fares under its bus reform initiative scheme.

The Lagos Metropolitan Area Transport Authority made this known in a statement on Thursday, February 13, via its social media pages.

4. Valentine’s Day: Osun promotes safe sex, distributes condoms: The Osun State Government has advised residents to avoid unprotected sex, particularly during Valentine’s Day celebrations, and prioritise safe sexual practices.

In a statement signed by the Executive Secretary of the Osun State Agency for the Control of HIV/AIDS (O-SACA), Olusegun Daramola, the government announced plans to distribute free condoms and lubricants at selected malls and lounges across the state to promote safe behaviour.

5. Rivers communities sue NNPCL, Oando, Agip over alleged neglect: Members of the Omoku clan in the Ogba-Egbema-Ndoni Local Government Area of Rivers State have taken the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited, Oando Nigeria, and Agip Oil, along with the Nigeria Upstream Petroleum Regulatory Commission, to court over alleged non-compliance with the provisions of the Petroleum Industry Act.

In their suit, they allege that Agip, Oando Plc, and NNPCL have failed to comply with the PIA by refusing to engage directly with the host communities as required by law.
