The National Examinations Council (NECO) has officially released the results for the 2024 Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, which took place between November 14 and December 14, 2024.
According to NECO’s Registrar and Chief Executive Officer, Professor Dantani Wushishi, a total of 62,929 candidates (75.62%) secured a credit and above in English Language, while 77,988 candidates (93.93%) achieved the same in Mathematics.
The examination covered 29 subjects, with 83,220 students sitting for English Language and 83,024 for Mathematics.
Additionally, 70,711 candidates (83.39%) attained five credits or more, regardless of their performance in English Language and Mathematics.
However, 6,160 candidates were flagged for various examination malpractices.

How to check your NECO 2024 external results online
To view your results online, follow these steps:
1. Visit the NECO result-checking portal: Open your browser and go to https://results.neco.gov.ng.
2. Purchase a result-checking token: If you don’t have a token, you must buy one to access your results.
- If you’re a new user, click ‘Register’ and follow the instructions to create an account.
- If you already have an account, log in with your email and password.
3. Buying the token:
- After logging in, click on ‘Purchase Token’.
- Follow the payment instructions and use a valid debit card to complete the transaction.
- Once the payment is confirmed, the token will appear under the ‘My Tokens’ section of your account.
4. Enter your examination details:
- Select ‘2024’ as the Examination Year.
- Choose SSCE External (NOV/DEC) as the examination type.
- Input the token number you purchased.
- Enter your NECO examination registration number.
5. Check your result: Click the ‘Check Result’ button, and your scores will be displayed on the screen.
How to check your NECO 2024 external results via SMS
You can also check your results using your mobile phone via SMS. Simply follow these steps:
1. Open your phone’s messaging app.
2. Type the following message without spaces:
NECOExamNumberPIN*ExamYear
3. Example: If your exam number is 12345678AB, your PIN is 6864123459678, and the exam year is 2024, your message should look like this: NECO12345678AB6864123459678*2024
4. Send the message to the designated NECO result-checking SMS number.
5. Shortly after sending, you will receive a text message containing your result.
With these simple steps, you can easily access your NECO 2024 SSCE External results through either the online portal or SMS.

WAEC releases 2024 results, records worse performance than the previous year
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that WAEC released 2024 results on August 12, with the performance of candidates worse than the previous year.
According to Dr. Amos Dangut, the Head of the Nigerian National Office (HNO) of the council, out of 1,805,216 who wrote the exam, 1,332,089 candidates have credits in five subjects, including any subjects with either Mathematics or English language, and 1,301, 949 candidates got credits in five subjects, including Mathematics and English language, accounting for 72.9% of total candidates.
