The Federal Government has officially declared public holidays to mark the celebrations of Christmas and New Year.
The holidays include Wednesday, December 25, for Christmas Day; Thursday, December 26, for Boxing Day; and Wednesday, January 1, 2025, for New Year’s Day.
This announcement was made by the Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, through a statement signed by the ministry’s Permanent Secretary, Magdalene Ajani, on Monday, December 23.
Dr. Tunji-Ojo extended warm greetings to Nigerians, urging citizens to embody the season's spirit by embracing love, peace, and unity.
“The Christmas season is an opportunity for both spiritual reflection and national renewal. As we celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ, the Prince of Peace, let us show kindness and goodwill to one another, regardless of our differences,” he said.
He also emphasised the importance of strengthening familial and community relationships, fostering harmony essential for national progress.
Reaffirming the government’s commitment to its citizens, Dr. Tunji-Ojo said, “The Federal Government remains steadfast in its dedication to ensuring peace, security, and prosperity throughout the nation.”
The minister expressed confidence in the administration’s Renewed Hope Agenda under President Bola Tinubu, projecting that it would pave the way for a more prosperous 2025.
