The Federal Government of Nigeria has designated 154 health facilities nationwide to provide free treatment for women with obstetric complications.
These facilities will offer essential medical care to women experiencing health challenges during pregnancy, labour, delivery, or the postpartum period, ensuring both maternal and infant well-being.
The Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Professor Ali Pate, made this announcement on Friday, March 7, during an interview on Politics Today, a programme on Channels Television.
According to him, the selected facilities are well-equipped with adequate manpower, modern medical equipment, and high standards of care to effectively manage emergency obstetric cases.
In addition to these, the government has identified 18 specialised centers across the country for the free treatment of vesicovaginal fistula (VVF), a severe childbirth-related condition.
Below is the full list of facilities offering free Comprehensive Emergency Obstetric Care and VVF treatment, as reported by Channels TV:
Reactions as FG approves 154 health facilities
@Sundayjctrucks: “While this sounds good on paper, the real challenge is proper implementation. Many past healthcare initiatives have struggled due to corruption and inefficiency.”
@fobecyril: “I must commend this, an impressive move to support women and families”
@lordseun26: “So in the whole of Oyo and Osun states only one hospital each is designated while Bauchi the state of the minister of health got many? Issue of health shouldn't be politicized and by the way they said minister of health is pate is foreign trained.”
@olufisayooduz: “How I wish our state governments were alive to their duties. Federal government dabbling into this shows how low that tier of government has become. Alas, this is a very welcomed and timely intervention by the federal government.”
@AkinKafolabi: “Great development. I hope it's effective in the coming days .. kudos to the government on this.”
@Dotun88: “No single kogi hospital.
Our Senators are more concerned about seat arrangements.”
@ChrisNjoku3: “I can't see Imo State on the list, Imo has two University teaching hospitals, Federal and State. Why are they not on the list?”
@NaijaWilf: “Personnel managing and implementing the new policy will frustrate any pregnant woman who tries to benefit from this.
That is how Nigeria works😎”
@royallifer: “Make health services accessible not occasional freebies in designated location!!!”
