- 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II, received backing from a prominent northern monarch
- The Emir of Potiskum in Yobe State, Umar Bauya, supported Sanusi’s reinstatement and said he could count on his support and that of his people
- He argued that the move preserves the sanctity of the Kano Emirate throne, which remains the sole first class seat in the state.
Amid the ongoing emirate tussle in Kano, the Emir of Potiskum, Umar Bauya, has expressed his staunch support for the 16th Emir of Kano, Muhammadu Sanusi II.
Bauya paid a solidarity visit to Sanusi following his reinstatement by Governor Abba Yusuf, which would mark the first time a northern emir visited the former CBN governor since the tussle began.
Emir Bauya’s visit was seen as a historic gesture, echoing his own experience from 26 years ago when he was reinstated with divine assistance. During his visit, Bauya highlighted the symbolic and practical importance of Sanusi’s return.
“The return of Emir Muhammadu Sanusi II is a significant milestone that justifies his leadership qualities. He is a leader who thinks and acts for his people. He has my personal support and that of my people.”
Sanusi, who was reinstated as Emir of Kano earlier this year, expressed gratitude for Emir Bauya’s visit, emphasising that it underscores unity and togetherness among Northern emirs.
"Game of Thrones": Court declares dethronement of Ado Bayero illegal, reaffirms his emir legitimacy
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the Kano Emirates Council Law, which dissolved the five Emirates in Kano State, has been overturned by a Federal High Court in Kano. The Federal High Court declared the dethronement of the 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, and four others illegal.
The presiding judge, Justice Abdullahi Muhammad Liman, while giving his ruling on Thursday, June 20, set aside the action of the Kano government, and ordered all the parties involved to maintain status quo.
