- His apology video sparks mixed reactions, with some praising his humility and creativity, while others criticise him for not taking the lawsuit seriously enough
Controversial social media critic, VeryDarkMan, has responded to the N1 billion lawsuit filed against him by Nigerian gospel minister, Mercy Chinwo.
In a surprising turn of events, VeryDarkMan took to his Instagram page on Thursday, March 6, to apologise to Mercy Chinwo humorously.
In the video, VeryDarkMan expressed shock at the lawsuit, stating that he was not financially equipped to handle such a hefty charge, stating;
“I woke to realise that Mercy Chinwo has filed a N1 billion lawsuit on me, stumbling on the document, it says that the defendants should write an unreserved apology to the Claimant and publish same in four national dailies, causing same to run for at least 14 consecutive days.
“The lawsuit demands N1 billion in general damages, N100 million in punitive and aggravated damages, and N25 million in court costs. Additionally, they are requesting 10 percent annual interest on the judgment sum until it is fully paid. Body of Christ don finally go court.”
He claimed that the aggregate of all the lawsuits he is currently facing amounts to N4.6 billion, which he cannot afford.
“Una wan kill me. I no get money, even the NGO money is not up to that. I know this case is not what I can go on with, so. I have to tender an apology. Initially, I wanted to say let us go on with the case, but when I thought about it, I decided to apologise.”
VeryDarkMan then broke into a rendition of Mercy Chinwo's song Excess Love, but with a twist. He altered the lyrics to plead his case, singing
"Mercy, your love is kind, your love is patient( don't let the devil use you) .. you fill my heart with so much peace and joy..You are amazing (don't let lawyers push you,).... You are not a man, you never lie( nah man dey lie, women no dey lie)... Mercy I love you too much oh…”
In a mixed reaction, both humorous and emotional, the social media critic emphasised that he is not asking Mercy Chinwo to drop the lawsuit entirely, but rather, he is pleading for a more reasonable compensation.
He reiterated that the N1 billion plus charge is outrageous and beyond his financial capabilities. Seizing the opportunity, he called out on the lack of regard for the country's currency, with lawsuits compensation.
