- Pastor E.A. Adeboye claimed prayers prevented the naira from falling to as low as ₦10,000 per dollar
- He commented on the backlash from the removal of petrol subsidies, suggesting it worsened the naira's instability
- The RCCG leader emphasised the need for divine help, noting that collective prayers helped stabilise the naira’s value
The General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E.A. Adeboye, has stated that, without divine intervention, the exchange rate could have reached ₦10,000 for $1.
Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, he attributed Nigeria’s financial struggles to its reliance on fuel imports and non-operational refineries.
The cleric noted that billions have been spent on refineries, many of which remain nonfunctional, resulting in a continued dependence on imported petrol.
He said, “We need help, and it’s not human help; it’s divine help. Before our current president took office, we were aware that the root of our financial issues lay in the importation of petrol. Despite having oil, we continued to import petrol and waste billions on refineries that did not operate effectively.”
Adeboye also discussed the controversy surrounding the government’s decision to eliminate fuel subsidies.
“When the president cancelled the subsidy on petrol imports, those who benefited from it became upset and created more problems.”
As the naira continued to decline rapidly, Adeboye said that he prayed and was grateful that others joined him in prayer.
“If God hadn’t intervened, $1 could have been worth ₦10,000 by now. This illustrates how much we need prayers,” he added.

Nigerians descend heavily on Pastor Adeboye and son over alleged N8b fraud case
Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that many Nigerians expressed anger at the Redeemed Christian Church of God, especially at the general overseer who recently said the country's problems are spiritual and not political.
The son of the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Adeolu Adeboye, and his wife were reportedly involved in an alleged fraud case. They had allegedly received N8 billion for a road construction project but only completed 30 per cent of the project.
