  • People responded to Adeboye’s prophecy online with a mix of humour, skepticism, admiration, and criticism

Pastor Enoch Adeboye, the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has sparked widespread conversation after revealing that God told him the church’s Governing Council meetings would someday be held on the moon.

Speaking during the monthly Holy Ghost Service held at Redemption City along the Lagos-Ibadan Expresswayon Friday, April 4, the revered cleric expressed unwavering belief in the divine revelation.

He acknowledged that while the idea may seem far-fetched to many, he firmly believes that what God has spoken will eventually come to pass.

“I am not doubting God. I know with Him all things are possible.

“He told me that a time will come when the RCCG Governing Council will hold their meetings on the moon. I know it doesn’t make sense, but then, that’s God. You don’t have to believe it, but He has spoken, and it will happen,” Adeboye said in a now-viral video shared on X (formerly Twitter).

The statement has stirred a wave of reactions across social media platforms, with netizens expressing a mix of humor, skepticism, and criticism.

Mixed reactions trail Adeboye's moon meeting prophecy

@Allezamani sarcastically questioned, “Why not the sun?”

@Handel_x criticised the priority of such a revelation: “Imagine what they are prioritizing amidst the hardship and chaos that Nigeria embodies at the moment…”

@digitalaom joked, “We must overtake Elon. A branch on Mars, another on the moon. We won’t even need the Nigerian government to support the project.”

@ambalium questioned the purpose: “Of what benefit is the meeting of the church’s governing council on the moon? Not for evangelism, not for soul winning. The resources used could improve lives here on earth. Jesus needs to come quick. #Selah”

Some users also expressed concern over the perceived shift in focus from core spiritual values.

@BasedMightysam remarked, “What difference will it make whether the meeting is held on the moon or here on earth? Focus has shifted from soul winning to chasing mysteries.”

Others tried to provide a balanced view.

@StackedSam pointed out, “He didn’t say it would happen soon. He said a day will come. That could be long after we’re gone.”

While some found the prophecy baffling, others, like @undiluted_ola, saw it as a futuristic vision: “If Elon can dream of space travel and make it happen, I don’t see why RCCG, with its capacity, can’t plan for the moon.”

However, there were also strong criticisms.

@ImIfeanyionuoha commented, “When Earth no longer buys the script, launch it to the moon. The deception clearly needs more altitude.”

@dsn∅147 added cynically, “Very soon gullible believers will start contributing for space missions just to fly pastors to the moon for council meetings.”

“This is annoying,” Nigerians react as Adeboye claims prayers saved naira from further decline

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Pastor E. A. Adeboye, had stated that, without divine intervention, the exchange rate could have reached N10,000 for $1.

Speaking at the Special Holy Ghost Congress in Abuja, he attributed Nigeria’s financial struggles to its reliance on fuel imports and non-operational refineries.
