  • A pregnant woman identified as Joyce Ifunayachukwu has reportedly died
  • Joyce was said to have died despite online donations made to help her Kidney transplant and pregnancy complications
  • Nigerians expressed rage on social media because Joyce allegedly died in a church where her husband took her instead of the hospital

From rage to sympathy, Nigerians have expressed mixed feelings following the death of a pregnant woman, identified as Joyce Ifunayachukwu.

Joyce, who was battling pregnancy and kidney complications, was said to have reportedly died because her husband took her to the church instead of the hospital.

Earlier in September, a N36 million donation call was made on behalf of Joyce to help her carry out a kidney transplant, including her pregnancy complications.

The tragic incident was revealed by an X (formerly Twitter) user, Serah Ibrahim, on Friday, November 22, in an attempt to give an update on the status of Joyce's health, she broke the news of her death.

Thank you everyone. Sadly we lost Joyce today. The money we were donating was taken by her husband into his personal account while he took her out from the hospital and took her to a CHURCH where the pastor said they could deliver her.

They took her from the hospital to a fcking Church and were praying and giving her Agbo, for KIDNEY PROBLEM. She’s dead and the phone conversations and voice notes I have will not just break you but piss you off.

She literally said she was not okay and was getting worse while her husband and the pastor were claiming she had been healed and was getting better.

The Nigerian Police need to start arresting Pastors. Enough is Enough. We lost her today,” Serah narrated.

@kcemenike said, “When are we going to arrest the husband and the pastor?”

@Ein_Motivation said, “You guys should push this case for manslaughter.”

@chude_ commented, “Nigerian Church at it again.”

@LadyGrasha said, “This is the most wicked thing to do especially to someone one claims to love. I am of the opinion the husband was just after the money; he didn't care about the woman's life. The pastor and the husband should be taken into custody.”

@thatpoetclem said, “The pastor and husband should be held for deliberate manslaughter.”

@PharmUcheey said, “Medicine and science is God's gift and miracles too. Why did that wicked husband do this?? This is so irritating. Now because of them, this poor woman has died and the church will get ridicule. As a Christian Pharmacist who believes in God's power, Please do not do this. The church does not endorse this!!!”

@_DebbieOA wrote, “Very satanic husband, he should be arrested alongside that thief pastor.”

@Benking443 said, “Who's the husband, who's the pastor. We need to start dragging them. They literally killed this lady. You can pray for anyone while the person is in the hospital.”

@KinliteMedia said, “This man wanted her to die so he will take the money, he needs to be arrested. The pastor too, am sure the man paid him.”

@Davidspredict said, “In all you do never marry a partner that takes health issues for granted.”

@amourab said, “We just need a functioning society. The people who brought religion to us, are the pioneer of science, they are wiser. Our people just carry religion for head then suspend their reasoning, empathy. We just don't value life.”

Friend of deceased pregnant woman’s husband speaks out

As Nigerians express rage over a pregnant woman’s husband accused of pocketing money meant for medical bills, a friend of the husband, Ebuka, has shared another side to the story.

The friend, identified as Faith Ogazi, disclosed that Joyce’s husband did his best for her prior to her death. Faith mentioned that Ebuka had to sell his house to raise money.

All the money donated was used for her treatment, and we couldn't even raise the 36 million naira needed for the kidney transplant. We did our best.

Ebuka was and still is a good man till she died. In fact I pray God blesses me with a man like him. He sold his house.” she expressed.
