  • Alma Asinobi announced that the Guiness World Record for fastest travel across seven continents was broken two weeks ago
  • Alma raises the stakes, aiming to complete the challenge in 60 hours instead
  • Nigerians react with support, humour, and encouragement, emphasising the challenges of travelling with a Nigerian passport

Nigerian travel and lifestyle creator, Alma Asinobi, has just encountered an unexpected twist in her attempt to break the Guinness World Record for the fastest time to visit all seven continents.

In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Alma revealed that the record she had been aiming to beat, 73 hours, was shattered just two weeks ago.ย

The new record now stands at 64 hours, a change she discovered while refreshing the Guinness World Records (GWR) page.

Overwhelmed by the news, Alma expressed her shock, posting:

"I just refreshed the GWR page for our record and someone just broke the record in 64hrs 2 weeks ago and they just verified it ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ๐Ÿ˜ญ."

The current title holder is Johnny Cruz Buckingham, a U.S. Air Force veteran and citizen of the United States, who achieved the feat in 64 hours after a previous failed attempt in 2022.ย

His journey, however, has sparked scepticism among some social media users, as there appears to be little public documentation of his record-breaking trip.

Despite this setback, Alma remains determined to push forward with her mission. She has now announced an even more ambitious goal, #7IN60, aiming to complete the challenge in just 60 hours.ย

The new mission means shaving off an additional four hours from the freshly set record, making the challenge even more intense.

However, as her challenge gains more attention, Alma has issued a clear warning to her supporters: she must plan the attempt herself to avoid disqualification. She urged people to refrain from sharing strategies or advice, stating:

"Guys please, part of the rules is that Iโ€™m supposed to plan this myself, so please avoid sharing plans and suggestions so I donโ€™t get disqualified.โ€

Alma's journey has already captured global attention, as she is not only attempting a groundbreaking feat but also using her platform to highlight the challenges faced by travellers with low-mobility passports.ย

As the youngest and only Black solo traveller attempting this record, her mission carries a strong message of representation and perseverance.

With her plans already in motion and the stakes even higher, Almaโ€™s journey is set to be one of the most inspiring travel challenges yet.ย

As she races against time, all eyes are on her to see if she can set a new world record and make history.

News of the updated record has sparked reactions across social media, with many Nigerians rallying behind Alma, offering encouragement, prayers, and even humour.
