A two-year-old girl, Pinky Ella, has tragically died at Smiley School in Sangotedo, Lagos, after reportedly being electrocuted on the school premises.
The incident, which occurred on January 15, 2024, has sparked outrage and calls for accountability following claims by the child’s mother that the school initially misled parents by attributing the death to drowning.
Pinky’s mother, who took to social media to demand justice, revealed that her daughter was healthy when she left for school that day but was returned home lifeless.
The grieving mother took to her X account @AbiaPrincess_X to share photos of her daughter and the school, explaining how negligence led to this unimaginable loss.
She alleged that the school claimed the child drowned in a swimming pool but that subsequent findings indicated the cause of death was electrocution.
Seeking justice, the mother urged the Lagos State Government to launch a thorough investigation into her daughter’s death and to shut down the school immediately.
She expressed her anger over the school's deceit, sharing that they misled other parents by stating the school was closed for maintenance.
She wrote, “Dear Lagos State Government, our 2-year-old daughter went to school yesterday and did not return alive.
“How do you have a pool in school premises without proper monitoring?😭 They lied she drowned in the pool but we have been able to find out it’s Electrocution, and they dropped her in the pool to look as if it was drowning.”
“Now they are telling other parents that the school is closed for maintenance instead of revealing the truth. If nothing is done, more parents could suffer the same fate. The pool has barricades how can a child of 2yrs climb?
“Please help us get Justice for our baby she just celebrated her 2yr birthday November last year, left home well for school on 15/1/2024 and never came back alive😭😭😭”
The Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA) has since responded to the mother’s plea, expressing condolences and urging her to provide more details for further investigation.
“My Goodness!!! First off, we are so sorry for your loss and thank you for bringing this situation to our attention. Please send us a DM as soon as you can!”
