Nigerian media personality, Frank Edoho, has weighed in on the controversy surrounding gospel singer Mercy Chinwo's contract with her former record label boss, Eezee Tee (Ezekiel Onyedikachukwu).

In a video posted on his Instagram page on Thursday, March 20, Edoho emphasised the importance of relying on facts rather than emotions, citing two audits that were conducted, one in 2023, which revealed that Eezee Tee owed Mercy Chinwo money.

He stated,

Non-Nigerians, especially Africans, have the opinion that Nigerians always stick to narratives without using facts, and I found that to be a little true.
“In the case of Mercy Chinwo and Eezee Tee Conceptz, everyone is using emotions. As a journalist, I decided to weigh into the matter with solid facts.”

Highlighting the misconceptions going around, the TV show host went further, “The first misconception is why is Mercy Chinwo avoiding audit? Well, she isn't, as a matter of fact, two audits have been done.”

According to Edoho, the first audit was conducted in 2023 with a mediator, Apostle Ansles Madubuko, with Mercy Chinwo, her husband Pastor Blessed, and Eezee Tee, among others present.

The audit revealed that Eezee Tee owed Mercy Chinwo, and an agreement was reached for him to pay the debt in instalments.

However, the audit company withdrew from the case due to Eezee Tee's delays and failure to comply with the rules.

The second audit was then conducted by the EFCC, which also revealed discrepancies in Eezee Tee's accounts and confirmed that he owed Mercy Chinwo money.

Edoho noted that Eezee Tee had paid some of the debt in instalments, but emphasised that there was no coercion or violence involved in the process.

Edoho urged Nigerians to stick to the facts rather than making emotional judgments, citing the example of another artiste who had a similar issue with Eezee Tee, stating,

Judikay, another wonderful artiste did her own audit and discrepancies were found.”

He emphasised the importance of verifying information before jumping to conclusions and encouraged the public to rely on credible sources rather than speculation and rumours.

Concluding, he stated,

Let us not continue with these. We use our feelings too much. I analysed it with facts. Let us be clear, unless other facts surface, audits were performed and discrepancies were found.”

Netizens have reacted with mixed reactions to Frank Edoho's post, with some expressing scepticism, others countering his views, and many more seeking clarity on the controversy surrounding Mercy Chinwo's contract with Eezee Tee.

@ifunanayaiheoma commented: “The high time u know both of them aren't innocent the better for u. Ezee had his faults, Mercy had her faults too.I hate the fact she came online with emotions, like she was innocent. She bridged contract, She took him to illorin where she had upper power to collect money from him illegally. So I don't understand this back and forth storyline frank, you should do well next time please.”
@daveebtc wrote: “I like and respect you a lot sir, just one curiosity i would like you to clarify, the EFCC officers involved in this case, are they mutual friends with Mercy husband or do they belong to the same church, lastly why was the case transferred to Ibadan efcc office? These are my curiosities that I would appreciate if you could clarify.”
@sundayosuala wrote: “Ru saying eezety was not detained by efcc for days can reekado banks detain donjazzyoga don't allow people to start dragging uoo.”
@unapapaforvillage wrote: “Did mercy breach contract at first yes or no? Did she detain ezeetee for 9 days? Has she received the $270k of her money already?”
@beingrealgeorge wrote: “Facts have no feelings... Everyone will be fine.”
@unapapaforvillage wrote: “Have you heard from EzeeTee? Did you reach out to listen to his side of the story before coming to the public with one sided story? SMH.”
@comediandeeone wrote: ‘Proper analysis based on facts!”
@oraclegodwayne wrote: “But you just proved that you have taken sides already, Which automatically means you cannot be a judge in this case.
It would have been better if you campared the alleged facts from the other team with these your alleged facts and make your submission objectively without any bias.
I was really expecting a lot more than this. Know how eloquent, intelligent and thoughtful you can be.
Should i believe you are also being pushed by your emotions!.”
@mr_bighillz wrote: “If audits were conducted, and you said Ezekiel is faulted, without mercy at fault too, my good advise to you sir please hear from both sides first before laying your truth. I won't say you are compromised because I have known you for a while you are a man with too much wisdom, I would just say probably you don't have all the facts yet, for your integrity sir please hands off the story and wait till the truth is out, thou you are entitled to your own opinion. Stay blessed.”
@danhausawa.dh wrote: “Well said, Mr. Frank. However, is your submission or analysis based on facts, or is it just your opinion, which may or may not be skewed? There are two parties involved, and they may have to settle their differences in a court of law rather than in public opinion or from a biased interpretation of the law.
There are many moving parts in this matter, and I believe both parties may be right and wrong in how they handled it. We can be fans or friends and still stand on the side of truth and facts.”
@classy_rugy wrote: “So 9 days in EFCC custody is what then? EFCC custody is hotel room? Secondly, if there is a dispute in business that a contract was signed to, you don't go to a government agency and detain one party, you go to court and the court will give a warrant for the audit to be done and whom ever owed who will be paid and face other persecution that the court see fit. Thirdly why didn't she state that this certain amount was already paid to her and there is a little remaining like you just said, instead of telling and manipulating her fans that her manager is not giving her royalties, Everything you just said now VDM have side it, just that you are sugarcoating how it happened just to favor Mercy, uncle Frank you are being biased, sit this one out. With all due respect.”
