Controversial crossdresser Idris Okuneye, popularly known as Bobrisky, has made it to the list of Africa's Most Talked About People, ranking seventh on the continent.
The crossdresser has been a polarising figure in Nigerian entertainment, with some hailing him as a trailblazer while others have criticised his lifestyle and behaviour.
The ranking, compiled by Top Charts Africa, has sparked mixed reactions from Nigerians. Some have congratulated Bobrisky on his achievement, while others have expressed scepticism about it.
The crossdresser took to his Instagram page to celebrate his latest achievement. In a now-deleted post, Bobrisky wrote: "No 7, the most talked about in AFRICA Girl 2025, bring more a game I hope you guys know how many countries we have in AFRICA, and I'm no 7 yooo mummy."
Earlier this year, he was involved in a scandal of money laundering and Naira mutilation, which cost him six months of his life in prison. However, one of the most notable controversies was the leaked phone call audio released by social media influencer Martins ‘VeryDarkMan’ Otse.
In the audio, Bobrisky confessed that he did not serve his prison sentence but stayed in a well-furnished apartment near the prison. Furthermore, he alleged that the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) received bribes, which led to a national uproar and debate as he denied the allegations.
The controversy surrounding his prison time led Bobrisky to flee Nigeria and seek refuge abroad temporarily. Despite the backlash, Bobrisky remains a prominent figure in African popular culture, with a massive following on social media.
The list included 14 Nigerians, showcasing the country's significant influence on African popular culture.
Among those who made it to the list from Nigeria include the General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, music superstars Wizkid and Davido, Nollywood actress Toyin Abraham, and former presidential aide Reno Omokri.
As Bobrisky continues to make headlines, it remains to be seen how he will leverage his latest achievement to further his brand and influence.
