- The online community remains divided over the circumstances of VeryDarkMan's arrest, with varying perspectives on the EFCC's actions
Controversial social media critic VeryDarkMan's brother, Mark Otse, has spoken regarding the protest at GTBank scheduled for today, Monday, May 5.
Following the arrest of VDM, plans for a mass protest involving large withdrawals of funds at the bank were organised, prompted by allegations that he was detained at the bank premises and claims that the bank was aware of the conspiracy.
In a video that has since gone viral on social media platforms, posted on Sunday, Mark Otse highlighted the guidelines for the protest. He indicated that the protest is meant to be peaceful and urged anyone with ulterior motives to stay home and refrain from attending.
Citing the well-accepted norms from the #ENDSARS protest in 2020, which included provisions of food and availability of DJs that could lead to chaos, he cautioned against such distractions.
He further addressed the issue of dressing, stating that everyone should be dressed decently, whether in a suit or traditional wear, as they are attending a banking setting. Finally, he advised participants to remain calm, assuring that police would be on standby.
He encouraged anyone who is apprehended to stay calm and avoid causing a commotion to prevent any loss of life.
He stated,
“Good evening Nigerians, I want to be very brief. Overtime, we have been doing some kind of protest that has not been favourable to us. I remember overtime before 2020, before the #ENDSARS protest.
“Youths have been coming out and we end up killing ourselves. And this is because of the way we are dressed, the plan and the package we do when we go out for these protests.
“Don’t bring food to the protest ground tomorrow , don’t bring DJ cos we’re not there to catch fun. it’s a different kind of protest. Make sure you dress well to the protest ground, wear a suit or wear Native with a cap. When you’re approached by the police, don’t run”
This situation has garnered significant attention, with many netizens weighing in on the controversy surrounding VeryDarkMan's arrest.
Some believe he deserved the consequences of his actions, while others have criticised citizens for supporting the EFCC's alleged overreach, suggesting that they could have summoned him instead of arresting him like a criminal.
Celebrities such as Davido, Peller, Kokopee, and Lucky Udu, among others have thrown their weight behind VeryDarkMan.
Netizens are eagerly anticipating the outcome of the protest scheduled for today.
