Social media critic Verydarkman addresses the allegations leveled against him following his release from EFCC detention
  • VeryDarkMan has been released from EFCC custody after facing allegations of money laundering
  • In a now-viral video, he expressed shock at the accusations, questioning how someone without wealth could be implicated in financial crimes
  • Support from his fanbase, "ratels," and other celebrities played a crucial role in raising awareness and protesting his arrest, leading to his release

Popular social media critic Martins Otse, also known as Verydarkman, has been released from custody following what many describe as a rogue arrest by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC).

He was released following the highly publicised protests from his fanbase and various Nigerian celebrities who vocally supported him.

In a viral video, Verydarkman, who sat by his lawyer, Deji Adeyanju, expressed disbelief over the charges of money laundering that were leveled against him, a sentiment that resonated with many of his followers.

How would they level allegations of money laundering on someone who doesn’t have money? I have done so many charity, they wonder how, they don’t know I use debt for charity,” he said.

As news of his release spread, netizens reacted with a mix of excitement and scepticism. While many celebrated his freedom and commended the efforts of his loyal fanbase, "ratels," some gave accolades to SAN Femi Falana for his influence in his release

Others cautioned that despite his newfound freedom, he still faces ongoing court cases and should remain grounded.

Verydarkman’s case has sparked significant conversation about the broader implications of public scrutiny.

A doctor, with the handle @drpenking, stated,

EFCC and GTBank just succeeded in giving Verydarkman good publicity. Now even the people that hated him have come to love him. I heard Mr SAN suer even asked for his release. Now that he has been released, the views on his next Instagram live will surpass NSPPD streams.”

“Pity this boy,” Reactions as court orders arrest of VeryDarkMan for defamation

Meanwhile, TheRadar earlier reported that a Chief Magistrate Court in Wuse, Abuja, issued a bench warrant for the arrest of VeryDarkMan over defamation allegations.

The court ruled that since he failed to honour a summons issued against him on March 5, he should be arrested and made to appear in court.
