Rapper Odumodublvck has finally spoken out about the commotion at the 17th Headies Awards, held at the Eko Convention Centre in Lagos, following his refusal to leave the stage after receiving the Next Rated award.

On Tuesday, April 29, Odumodublvck shared an explanation of the stage incident via his X handle, @odumodublvck_.

He wrote, "iI was talking about Jesus and they tried to shut me down. I am hundred percent sure that if I was talking about his excellency, Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, I would not have been cut off.

“I genuinely have no bad blood towards the headies, rather, I am grateful they put my mic back on to spread the gospel. Jesus is king. He is before now and forever."

This comes after Odumodublvck stormed the stage with his mother, only to have his microphone cut off midway through his acceptance speech as he was asked to step aside for the next award presentation.

However, he declined, making a strong case for his message. The organisers eventually restored his microphone connection, allowing him to finish his speech.

He hurriedly stated after his microphone was restored,

"Against all odds, I have pushed against so many barriers like this. A couple of years back, there were so many feelings we could not express through our music.
“The world would clap us down; ‘you can’t be this,’ or ‘you can’t speak like this,’ ‘you can’t do this,’ ‘you can’t release music in this way.’ Me standing here today is proof that all those things are fallacies.
“It only would have been possible through my Lord and saviour, Jesus Christ, who has been there for me through thick and thin. Tonight, God has shown that God reigns.”

However, his address did not sit well with some netizens, who pointed out that he was not cut off for mentioning Jesus, but rather due to timing.

Odumodublvck rejoices over his award

Following the clarification regarding the stirred drama, Odumodublvck took time to celebrate his win as he declared himself the first rapper to secure the Next Rated award in the history of the Headies Awards.

He called upon fellow rappers to celebrate his achievement, saying, "

First rapper to win the next rated award hip hop legacy. i thought that by now eldee, mode 9 & nigga raw would have sent me a bottle of shayo coupled with words of appreciation but no.
“I will push it to Vector, the Abaga brothers, & Naeto C (my cousin). When I see each and every one of them, they will transfer me money, even if it's 100k. They will. for representing them."

His statement has since sparked reactions from netizens.

I'm a Christian a follower of Christ and his teachings....but there are limits to things especially in a multiple faith belief country and a country where religion is being used for fraud... Get sense or go home.”

We would listen millions of Nigerians would listen. You weren’t cut because you mentioned Jesus, you were cut because you were talking to much. Every speech is meant to be brief. Venue are being paid for per hour and show organizers spend time calculating how to fix the whole event into the time they paid for to avoid extra costs. But small thing una don push religious agenda.”
