- Real Madrid winger Goes Rodrygo reveals frustration at being left out of the 2024 Ballon d’Or nominees
- Rodrygo scored the winning goal for Brazil in their World Cup qualifier against Ecuador
- The 23-year-old is now more determined to showcase his talent for both club and country than ever before
Real Madrid forward Goes Rodrygo has come under fire after voicing his displeasure at being left out of the 2024 Ballon d’Or nominees list.
The Brazilian, who contributed significantly to Madrid's La Liga and Champions League success, admitted he was surprised and upset by the decision during a recent interview, which has caused mixed reactions online.
While many have praised him for sharing his feelings, a lot more have tried to shut him up from the comfort of their rooms.
The announcement by France Football revealed that neither Lionel Messi nor Cristiano Ronaldo featured on the list for the first time in over two decades, leaving fans quite emotional, as it looks like the football world might soon see the end of their dominance.
Some Madrid stars like Vinícius Júnior, Jude Bellingham, and Kylian Mbappé were included, but Rodrygo, despite his solid performances, was not.
Reacting to the omission, the 23-year-old said, “I was upset, I think I deserved it. I don't want to belittle the players who are there, but I think I had a place in the 30. It was a surprise... But there's not much I can do, I'm not the one who decides these things, everyone [has supported me], both in the national team and at Real Madrid. People sent messages.”
Rodrygo has indirectly also sent a message to the coaching team of his club explaining how his versatility has brought him ill luck.
“Often, I'm just filling spaces. Is someone missing there? Put Rodrygo in. Is someone missing on the right? Rodrygo. Is someone missing as No. 9? Rodrygo,” he stated, stating that his versatility can sometimes overshadow his individual contributions. It however remains to be seen how Carlo Ancelotti, Real Madrid boss will react to Rodrygo’s claims.
Despite the disappointment, Rodrygo continued to perform on the pitch, netting a crucial winner for Brazil in their World Cup qualifier against Ecuador.
After the match, he commented, “I've scored a few goals [with Brazil] and I want many more. I know my quality and how far I can go.”
