Libya faces a crucial AFCON doubleheader against Nigeria next month.
Micho claims he has not been officially dismissed as Libya coach despite rumours.
  • Serbian coach, Milutin Sredojević has set conditions for his contract renewal, which may not be met
  • The coach also known as Micho confirmed tensions between Tripoli and Benghazi may impact his contract negotiations
  • His future, however, remains uncertain, coupled with criticism surrounding his team selections.

Amid growing uncertainty and internal turmoil, Libya’s national team coach, Milutin Sredojević, more popular as "Micho," finds himself at a crossroads.

The Serbian tactician has been under intense scrutiny following Libya’s shaky start to their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifying campaign, with reports emerging that he could be dismissed ahead of their crucial clash against Nigeria's Super Eagles.

Libya, currently languishing at the bottom of Group D with just one point from two matches, suffered a 1-1 draw against Rwanda at home and a 2-1 defeat away to Benin. These results have cast doubt over Micho’s future, even though he led Libya to nine victories before the AFCON qualifiers commenced.

Despite swirling rumours about his dismissal, Sredojević himself has confirmed that he has not yet been sacked. Speaking exclusively to Brila FM, Micho stated,

“My contract will expire at the end of this month. I have set conditions that they cannot fulfill due to the big tension between Tripoli and Benghazi. We shall see what happens next.”

Micho’s contract remains under review, and with internal divisions in Libyan football, there are significant doubts over whether the conditions he has set will be met. The team’s recent results have only added fuel to the fire, with criticism mounting over the coach’s squad selections.

The stakes could not be higher for Libya, as they prepare to take on Nigeria in back-to-back AFCON qualifiers next month. The first leg is set to take place in Uyo on October 7, with the return fixture scheduled a few days later in Tripoli.

Nigeria’s Super Eagles have been very impressive over their last two qualifying outings against Benin and Rwanda since the appointment of Austin Eguavoen as technical coach. With the confidence of the West African side seeming very high coupled with the superb performances of their players across Europe, Libya might have a very big hurdle to overcome.

As Libya’s AFCON qualification hopes hang by a thread, the pressure on Micho continues to mount, and his future could be decided by the outcome of these crucial matches.

AFCON Qualifiers: Rwanda Wasps hold Nigerian Eagles to goalless draw

Previously, TheRadar reported that Nigeria’s Super Eagles were left frustrated in Kigali as the Rwanda Wasps held them to a goalless draw in their second 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifier.

After a convincing 3-0 victory over Benin just three days earlier, coach Augustine Eguavoen’s side entered the game with confidence, hoping to secure another three points. However, despite controlling most of the game, the Super Eagles couldn’t find a way past Rwanda’s tenacious defence.
