- Rodrygo’s return offers optimism as Real Madrid continues to grapple with injuries to key players.
Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti addressed the media ahead of their La Liga clash against Getafe at the Santiago Bernabeu, shedding light on the team's recent struggles and his expectations for the season.
Ancelotti emphasised patience and collective effort as Madrid looks to navigate a challenging period of injuries, inconsistent performances, and adaptation challenges.
When pressed about Kylian Mbappé’s recent form, Ancelotti remained firm in his belief that the star forward would bounce back.
He explained, “Mbappé hasn’t given up; he knows he needs to step up his game. This is not just about one individual, this is a team issue. Several players have missed penalties lately, but we stand together, providing support and assistance.”
He reiterated that the squad is missing key players but pointed to Rodrygo’s imminent return as a relief, adding,
“Patience is indeed the way forward.”
Ancelotti praised Getafe, acknowledging their strong defensive structure and values, while outlining Madrid’s strategy to secure victory,
“We are gearing up for a challenging contest. The plan is to effectively control the game and show a strong performance,” he stated.
On potential signings, Ancelotti dismissed the speculation, emphasising the importance of evaluating the squad during the next 40 days,
“Alaba is in great form and will be back soon. Speculating about transfers now is pointless; circumstances can change,” he remarked.
Addressing Mbappé’s integration into the team, Ancelotti mentioned the Frenchman’s contributions despite the hurdles,
“He’s adapting to our setup and has already contributed with eight goals and assists. The entire squad has room for improvement, including myself,” Ancelotti noted.
He also stressed the importance of returning to defensive basics, calling it the “bedrock of football success.” Ancelotti expressed optimism about Madrid’s improving defence, stating,
“When a team struggles, simplifying things and focusing on fundamentals is key.”
Reflecting on his own role, the veteran coach acknowledged that inconsistencies and lack of focus within the team ultimately fall on him. He pointed to missed opportunities in critical games, such as their clash with Liverpool, as areas for improvement.
Ancelotti concluded by expressing confidence in Mbappé’s form, stating,
“Based on recent performances, he has earned his place in the starting XI. His confidence is growing, and he’s excelling both with and without the ball.”
