- Everton is reportedly considering him as a replacement for Sean Dyche once take over is complete
- Potential new owner Dan Friedkin does not see Dyche as a long-term manager for the club
- AS Roma’s owner Dan Friedkin worked with Jose Mourinho while he was at Roma
Jose Mourinho, one of the most legendary names in football management, is reportedly eyeing an unexpected return to English football.
Popularly known for his larger-than-life persona and an impressive track record with Premier League giants like Chelsea, Manchester United, and Tottenham Hotspur, Mourinho may now have his sights set on Everton, a club few would have imagined.
Three years after parting ways with the Premier League, sources have revealed that Mourinho is being “strongly considered” to replace current Everton boss Sean Dyche.
The potential change comes amid an impending takeover at Everton, with American businessman and owner of Italian side AS Roma, Dan Friedkin closing in on a deal to buy the club from British-Iranian businessman Farhad Moshiri, who owns 94.1% of the club’s shares. While regulatory approval is still pending, insiders suggest Mourinho’s name is already floating around as a possible successor.
Football Insider reports that Friedkin, who previously worked with Mourinho during their time at AS Roma, sees the Portuguese manager as the ideal figure to take the reins at Everton should Dyche fail to turn the club’s fortunes around. Despite joining Turkish side Fenerbahce in June, Mourinho's return to England seems far from impossible.
Currently, Everton finds itself narrowly above the Premier League relegation zone, sitting in 16th place. Sean Dyche’s tenure has been rocky, with the Toffees managing only two wins from seven games this season, including their first league victory, a 2-1 triumph over Crystal Palace. Dyche's overall win rate at Everton stands at just 34%, with 24 wins, 17 draws, and 30 defeats marking his poorest record as a manager.
With Dyche’s contract set to expire at the end of the season, reports suggest that Friedkin does not view him as a long-term solution for the club.
Given their previous collaboration at Roma, where Mourinho earned Friedkin's trust by delivering the club’s first trophy in 14 years , a potential reunion at Goodison Park could be on the horizon.
