Premier League side Leicester City have officially parted ways with manager Steve Cooper after just five months in charge, marking the second managerial sack in the Premier League this season.

The announcement came after Leicester's 2-1 home defeat to Chelsea, managed by Cooper’s predecessor, Enzo Maresca. The loss left the Foxes at 16th in the Premier League table, just two points above the relegation zone after 12 matches.

Steve Cooper, who signed a three-year deal in the summer, took the reins after guiding Nottingham Forest to Premier League promotion in 2022. However, his tenure with Leicester has been anything but smooth. Despite inheriting a team that had just clinched promotion as Championship winners under Maresca, Cooper struggled to replicate similar success in England’s top flight.

Cooper’s tenure was incredibly marred by poor results and controversial refereeing decisions. Following the Chelsea defeat, Cooper lamented the team’s "bad luck" with referees, citing a crucial decision where Wesley Fofana appeared to foul Stephy Mavididi in the box, only for the Foxes to be denied a penalty. While VAR later awarded them a late spot-kick, Jordan Ayew’s conversion could not win them a comeback.

A club statement expressed gratitude for Cooper’s contributions but confirmed his immediate departure, along with assistant manager Alan Tate and first-team coach Steve Rands. The statement read,

“Leicester City Football Club has parted company with Steve Cooper, who leaves his position as first team manager with immediate effect. Assistant manager Alan Tate and first team coach and analyst Steve Rands have also left the club. Steve, Alan, and Steve depart with our thanks for their contribution during their time with the club and with our best wishes for the future.”

In the interim, first-team coach Ben Dawson will oversee training, supported by coaches Danny Alcock and Andy Hughes, while the search for a new manager begins. Leicester City will most likely look to finalise a new appointment ahead of their next fixture against Brentford on Saturday, November 30.

With the clock ticking and pressure mounting, Leicester’s next chapter remains uncertain as they prepare for life after Steve Cooper.

Previously, TheRadar reported that In a thrilling match at Selhurst Park, Wilfred Ndidi of Leicester City delivered a superb performance, notching two assists that saw him surpass Nigerian legend Jay-Jay Okocha’s Premier League assist record.

Despite Ndidi's heroics, Leicester was held to a 2-2 draw by Crystal Palace on Saturday, September 14, courtesy of Jean-Philippe Mateta’s stoppage-time penalty.
