- Alexander Isak advises FPL managers to transfer him out ahead of Newcastle’s match against Wolves
- The Swedish forward has 16 points this season, with contributions in two of three games so far
- He is one of the most-owned players in FPL, with Haaland and Salah ahead of the Newcastle striker
As Fantasy Premier League (FPL) managers brace for Gameweek 4, a surprising piece of advice has come straight from the lips of Newcastle United’s star striker, Alexander Isak. In a twist that may leave many scratching their heads, Isak has cheekily urged FPL managers to transfer him out ahead of the Magpies’ clash with Wolves this weekend.
While the Swedish international has been an integral part of countless FPL squads this season, his unexpected suggestion could make managers think twice.
The Newcastle forward has had a mixed start to the Premier League campaign, failing to score in the first two matches against Southampton and Bournemouth. However, he found his stride against Tottenham Hotspur, where his late goal secured a 2-1 victory for the north-east side. Despite this form, Isak insists there’s a satisfaction he gets in scoring when managers remove him from their teams.
“It’s much better to hear when people have transferred me out and then score two goals,” he told fotbollsmorgon, after Sweden's Nations League game against Estonia.
Currently owned by about 45% of FPL managers, Isak is a very decent option in the managers' game, and even as popular as Erling Haaland and Mohamed Salah. Yet, his unsolicited advice might just have caused a stir in the FPL community as managers now debate whether to heed his suggestion.
Speaking candidly, the 24-year-old also revealed why he doesn’t partake in the popular fantasy game.
“If I did play, I would have become too selfish on the pitch,” he mentioned.
Isak has racked up 16 points so far this season, with an assist on the opening day against Southampton and a goal, plus three bonus points, in the match against Spurs.
While his form suggests he could replicate his 172-point tally from last season, where he scored 25 goals in the English Premier League (EPL), the striker's words may lead some FPL managers to rethink their strategies.
However, it remains to be seen if this really is a statement of intent or if the Swedish international is only playing mind games with fantasy premier league managers worldwide.
