- Erling Haaland commits long-term to Manchester City with a historic 2034 contract extension
- Haaland has already won two Premier League titles, the Champions League, the FA Cup, and the Super Cup with Manchester City
- His goal tally this season stands at 16 in 21 league games, placing him behind only Mo Salah on the scoring charts
Manchester City star forward Erling Haaland has stunned the footballing world by signing an unprecedented nine-and-a-half-year contract extension with Manchester City, keeping him at the Etihad until the summer of 2034.
The deal means that the Norwegian striker will be 34 years old when his contract expires, making a long-term commitment to the club.
Haaland’s previous deal was set to run out in 2027, but City have acted decisively to secure their star forward amid speculation linking him to Real Madrid. Since joining Manchester City from Borussia Dortmund in June 2022, Haaland has been a goal machine, netting 111 goals in just 126 appearances.
The announcement comes at a sensitive moment for Manchester City, as the club is embroiled in a disciplinary case involving 115 charges of alleged rule breaches brought by the Premier League.
Despite the uncertainty, Haaland expressed unwavering confidence in the club and enthusiasm for his future at City,
“I am really happy to have signed my new contract, this club is special, full of fantastic people, and it’s an environment that brings out the best in everyone. I want to thank Pep [Guardiola], his staff, and my teammates for helping me grow so much in the last couple of years. I am City no matter what,” he said.
Haaland has been instrumental in City’s success since his arrival, helping the club secure two Premier League titles, the Champions League, an FA Cup, and a Super Cup.
Although his goal-scoring form has dipped slightly this season, scoring 16 goals in 21 league games so far, his tally still places him second behind Mo Salah in the Premier League top-scorers chart.
City are also actively strengthening their squad during the January transfer window, with deals nearing completion for defenders Abdukodir Khusanov and Vitor Reis, as well as Eintracht Frankfurt striker Omar Marmoush.
Haaland’s impact at City mirrors his remarkable stint at Borussia Dortmund, where he scored 86 goals in 89 games after arriving from RB Salzburg in January 2020.
Signed for an initial fee of £51 million, his transfer to City, including bonuses and agent fees, reportedly totalled £85.5 million.
With his long-term future now secured, Haaland aims to continue breaking records and adding silverware to City’s trophy cabinet.
