Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has expressed confidence in his team’s ability to close the nine-point gap to Premier League leaders Liverpool, but he also warned of the challenges the Reds might face in sustaining their stellar form.

Speaking ahead of Arsenal’s crucial trip to West Ham, today, November 30, Arteta reflected on the gruelling nature of the title race and the unpredictable twists that come with it.

Arteta mentioned the difficulty of maintaining dominance over a 10-month campaign, drawing from Arsenal’s own experiences in recent seasons,

“We’ve been there, and to sustain it for 10 months is extremely difficult, suddenly, when you think you have it, one day it collapses. It can be a result, of injuries, or other kinds of decisions. And it can happen at any moment.”

Arsenal, currently nine points adrift of Liverpool, have the chance to close the gap to six points temporarily with a win at West Ham. Meanwhile, Liverpool face reigning champions Manchester City in a clash that could change the title race.

Arteta emphasised that Arsenal’s focus must remain on their own performances, saying,

“What we can control is to be at our very best.”

Despite Liverpool’s strong start under new manager Arne Slot, winning 10 of their 12 Premier League matches and maintaining a perfect record in the Champions League, Arteta believes the Gunners are still in the fight for the title,

“I really believe in my team,” Arteta affirmed when asked about Arsenal’s chances of catching Liverpool.

Slot himself recently advised caution over Liverpool’s current lead, pointing to Arsenal’s collapse two seasons ago, when they surrendered an eight-point advantage to Manchester City.

Arteta emphasised the importance of consistency and squad availability to maintain momentum in the title race,

“Winning lifts the energy and confidence up, we’ve had two big wins, and now it’s about maintaining that consistency and building on it against West Ham.”

As the Gunners prepare for another critical test and with Liverpool’s current form the title race promises plenty of surprises yet.
