Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has urged Bukayo Saka to take a much-needed holiday to recharge during his recovery from a hamstring injury.

The England international, who sustained the injury during Arsenal’s 5-1 victory against Crystal Palace on December 21, 2024, has been ruled out until March after undergoing surgery.

Arteta emphasised the importance of rest for Saka, noting that the 23-year-old has not had a break for two seasons.

Speaking to reporters, Arteta said,

“He needs to [go on holiday]. He is obligated to go. With his girlfriend or his family, he can choose. Or on his own. But he needs to get away for a few days and refresh.”

The winger, one of Arsenal's standout performers this season with nine goals and 13 assists, has been a regular presence at the club's Sobha Reality Training Centre since his surgery. However, Arteta believes that a brief time away from football will benefit both Saka’s physical and mental recovery,

“He can still do a lot of things with his rehab because it is the perfect stage. I think it will make him really better. Bukayo hasn’t had any time off for the past two seasons, so it’s a moment where maybe he can have a break as well, in other parts of his life, be closer to his family,” he said.

Arteta acknowledged the uncertainty surrounding the winger’s return, explaining,

“He had a procedure. Everything went well, but unfortunately, he will be out for many, many weeks. It will depend on how the scar tissue starts to heal and the first week or so of his mobility. Let’s see; it’s very difficult to say,” he stated.

While Saka’s absence leaves a void in Arsenal’s attack, Arteta stressed the need to prioritise the player’s well-being.

The Spaniard tactician said,

“We need to look after our players... there is a moment when he needs to do that [take a break]. That is very important for him as well.”

As Arsenal push forward in Saka’s absence, fans will eagerly await the return of their star player, refreshed and ready to contribute on the pitch.
