- Arsenal is reportedly targeting Kingsley Coman as Mikel Arteta looks to boost squad options amidst the Premier League title pressure
- Injuries to key players, including Bukayo Saka, have left Arsenal searching for attacking reinforcements in January
- Kingsley Coman has scored three goals and provided two assists in 13 Bundesliga appearances this season
Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta is reportedly eyeing a January swoop for Bayern Munich winger Kingsley Coman as the Gunners look to strengthen their Premier League title challenge.
Despite a good start to the 2024/25 season, Arsenal find themselves trailing leaders Liverpool and struggling for goals even with one of the league’s best defensive records.
The Gunners’ attacking woes have been compounded by the injury to star winger Bukayo Saka, who is expected to be sidelined for several months following hamstring surgery. Saka’s absence has left Arsenal short of quality, forcing Arteta to consider reinforcements to bolster their frontline.
According to reports, Coman has emerged as a prime target for Arsenal. The 28-year-old French international has found himself on the fringes at Bayern this season, making just six Bundesliga starts. Despite his limited minutes, Coman has still managed three goals and two assists in 13 appearances.
Arsenal are believed to be ‘weighing up a shock swoop’ for Coman, who previously enjoyed successful spells at Paris Saint-Germain and Juventus before moving to Bayern Munich. His pace, skill, and experience at the highest level could provide the Gunners with a modest quality buy.
However, Arteta has played down talk of an urgent need for new signings, insisting that any additions must be “extraordinary” to justify a January move.
Speaking recently, the Arsenal boss acknowledged his team’s struggles in front of goal but suggested that the current squad was still capable of competing for the title.
“I’m very happy with the players that we have, when you look at the amount of goals that we have scored as well, it is more than enough to win the Premier League. But the reality is somebody is doing more. And that is the reality of life, so we have to do better.”
Arteta added that any January signing would need to make an immediate impact, emphasising the challenges of finding top-quality players in the mid-season window,
“If something extraordinary is in the market that we can afford and we think will have a real impact on the team, we have to be open for that possibility.”
Rivals scared as Saka unveils major agenda for Arsenal
Previously, TheRadar reported that Arsenal’s effort toward claiming silverware saw a major boost as they secured a Carabao Cup semi-final spot with a hard-fought victory over Crystal Palace.
Bukayo Saka came off the bench to provide a pivotal assist and later declared that the Gunners are “ready to compete for every trophy” this season.
